Join IEP!

Are you interested in learning or improving your English? Well, you should apply for the IEP at Hawaii Community College on the Big Island of Hawai'i. The IEP program offers students the chance to learn English in small-sized classes and also gives students the opportunity to learn more about the culture in Hawaii through various trips around the island and cultural events.

I've been a conversation partner and tutor for the program for about a year and a half and I greatly recommend any student wanting to learn or improve their English to join the IEP. The teachers are very enthusiastic about teaching and are more than willing to help students learn. The class sizes are small so it's easier to get one-on-one help from the teachers. Also it gives students a chance to get to know their classmates. Students and faculty of the IEP program are like one big family.

Aside from learning English, the IEP offers the opportunity for you to meet students from many different countries. The program has a very diverse enrollment of students as well as conversation partners and tutors. It's a great way for you to make new friends!

Hapuna Beach Trip

On Saturday, June 7, some IEP students went to Hapuna Beach to spend a day having fun on the white sandy beach and in the nice cool ocean. This was my very first IEP weekend trip and it was a very memorable experience. The students had a great time playing on the beach and at the same time had the chance to practice their English with conversation partners. I even got the chance to learn more about each student after spending the day with them. After going on this trip with the IEP students I personally recommend any new or continuing students to take advantage of the weekend trips that the program offers. It's a good way not only to practice using English, it's also a great way to make new friends!

Last weekend, the IEP students and the conversation partner, Justin, and I went to Pahoa and Kalapana as the IEP weekend trip. We enjoyed swimming at hot pond and watching the lava ocean entry from Kalapana side.

What is the IEP conversation lounge?

Aloha from Hilo, Hawaii! ^_^ Thank you for visiting the IEP Conversation Partners Blog. My name is Emi, assistant of Hawaii Community College Inteisive English Program (IEP).
Once a week, the IEP students have time to talk with a native conversation partner for one hour. They practice real English conversation, and learn how to express their ideas in English. Most of the IEP students said the time made them motivated to study English.

We look forward to you joining us soon! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have a interested in studying English in Hilo Hawaii! ^_^

IEP Conversation Lounge

Hi! My name is Tiffany Balala and I'm a conversation partner and tutor for IEP. The Conversation Lounge is an excellent way for students who are learning English as a second language to interact with people who speak English. It's an educational and very fun way for students to learn the language!
